PolyPlay S in the open-air hall at Heidberg, Hamburg

A great place for play, fun, and activity

In the summer of 2023, the new open-air hall on the grounds of the city and elementary school am Heidberg in Hamburg was opened. It was planned and implemented by SMC2 Germany. This second open-air hall in the Hanseatic city now enriches the school grounds at Heidberg and provides students with a place to spend their breaks outdoors all year round, regardless of the weather. Under the roof made of a special textile membrane, there is plenty of space for play, fun, and movement, as well as for physical education or events in the open air. Crossbeams and purlins made of laminated timber and supports made of hot-dip galvanized steel form the stable structure of the Hamburg open-air hall. The roof, made of the textile membrane, is translucent, ensuring natural lighting for the sports and activity area. Since the membrane has low thermal mass, the material does not emit additional cold in winter or extra heat in summer.Inside the hall, we installed our durable all-round surface PolyPlay S with multifunctional sports field lining. Thanks to its smooth surface and excellent ball bounce, PolyPlay S is an ideal surface for ball sports at schools and for numerous outdoor applications. It is laid flat yet provides absolute slip-resistance. Its further advantages include high wear protection and low maintenance effort. Its two-layer design guarantees consistent values in terms of damping and deformation.The sports field is enclosed and secured with a low-noise boarding system made of welded mesh elements. Embedded at the ends are two mini soccer goals, as well as two permanently installed basketball hoops. For evening use, the open-air hall is equipped with modern LED lighting and features a lightning protection system. Due to its robust construction with steel supports, the fencing system made of steel, and lockable access points, the facility is vandalism-proof.However, it's not just students who benefit from the facility with the multifunctional field. Members of the SiB-Club e.V. also gain from it. While the open-air hall is mainly available for school use in the morning, the sports club located on the grounds reserves the afternoon hours for courses and training sessions. As such, the hall is optimally utilized year-round and simultaneously relieves the nearby school gymnasium.
