Polytan|STI synthetic turf systems – systematic success

Polytan|STI designs and installs modern synthetic turf systems – with system design playing a crucial role in this. There is an optimal balance between the individual components, which include the bound base and elastic layers, synthetic turf covering and fill materials. Production, installation and maintenance all come from a single source and, needless to say, are based on uncompromising adherence to the latest version of the relevant norm, DIN SPEC 18035 part 7:2011-10. The Polytan|STI system for synthetic turf is assembled as follows:. 

Bound elastic (base) layer

The elastic layer or elastic base layer of the Polytan|STI system is the reason why factors that are so key in sports physiology, such as shock absorption and deformation, are kept within a precisely defined value range. This has a lasting impact on player safety. The layer consisting of elastic granules and elastic bonding agents (in the case of an elastic shockpad also offset with aggregate) ensures that the synthetic surface is both stable and yielding. The elastic (base) layer is made in the in-situ installation system.

Synthetic turf surface

The synthetic turf fibres (PE monofilaments) are produced in our own plant and made into a synthetic grass surface by using what are known as tufting techniques. The monofilament grass fibres feel like natural grass to the players and are an integral part of player safety during action-packed and fast-moving styles of play. They also produce precise ball rolling behaviour and optimum playing qualities. High-quality raw materials and a unique formulation ensure supreme wear resistance and absolute softness.

Fill materials

Depending on the application and type of turf, Polytan|STI turf systems are either unfilled or filled with sand or with sand and granules. In the case of filled synthetic turf systems, use is made of quartz sand and elastic fill materials that meet standard requirements and comply with RAL quality assurance guidelines. The infill granules are an extremely important component of the system for football pitches in particular. As an elastic element, they simulate natural grass. They give players the necessary grip and adequate traction when changing speed or direction. In conjunction with the filaments and the elastic layer, the granules play a vital role in terms of safety and realistic ball rolling behaviour.
