Synthetic turf has been around for years in football 

UEFA and FIFA have allowed synthetic turf to be used as a playing surface for training and matches, and for national and international tournaments, since March 2005. Synthetic football pitches also have other advantages for clubs: they keep postponed league fixtures and cancelled training sessions to a minimum. Moreover, a modern synthetic football pitch is a playing surface that allows clubs to go ahead with training and matches more or less regardless of the weather.

Modern football pitches are synthetic turf systems filled with sand and rubber granules. When developing the turf, our overriding objective is to imitate natural grass as closely as possible.
